Development
of Copenhagen airport
(Denmark)
The development of a metro bridge and the creation of a new area for the Airbus A380 are two
operations that are fairly representative of our long-term commitment to Copenhagen airport.
The airport has been experiencing a constant increase in traffic for a long time and the many

The new development works intended for the Airbus A380 also help to increase the airport’s
accommodation capacity. The world’s largest passenger aircraft indeed requires a considerable
amount of space, and so it was decided to widen runway 04R-22L by 3.5 m on either side,
making a total of 26,000 m along its 3.6 km length. MOE was responsible for replacing the

runway lights and all the electrical installations, rerouting the cable blocks, and, in particular,
finding an effective solution for removing water from the runway. Channels some 30 m wide
were dug to handle all future runoff, including that from torrential rainfall.
As an additional operation to widening the runway, airport pier C was also enlarged to handle the
increasing number of passengers from outside the European Union and Schengen Zone. MOE
acted as principal consultant for the project. We were responsible for the various engineering

tasks connected with the development of the 6000 m extension to pier C, taking into account
the need to board and disembark on two levels – a requirement for the future with aircraft like
the A380.
