R&D
with an eye to the world

In the last few decades, humanity has become aware of its huge impact on the environment, on
the balance of nature and on the climate. There is increasing demand from our societies for the
preservation of natural resources – particularly water, a source of numerous conflicts – for low-carbon
energy production, for risk management and for healthcare.
Impact mitigation, environmental integration, adaptation to climate change, resilience and sustainable
development are now major challenges for any engineering project, be it in the field of regional
development, urban development, energy production or transport. In taking up these many challenges
in increasingly complex and multidisciplinary fields, Artelia has inherited from Sogreah a genuine
culture of research and innovation that has a full grasp of technical and social change and continues
to be perpetuated today.
In the fields of water, energy and the environment, we invest large sums in R&D each year, often in the
framework of industrial partnerships (for example with Electricité de France concerning the Telemac
aquatic environment modelling system) or national and international collaborative research projects.
We thus keep in permanent contact with the scientific community and other leading world experts,
comparing our experience and constantly improving our understanding of phenomena in the widest
sense (in physics, chemistry and biology, but also in the social and economic sciences), our study
methodologies and analysis techniques, and our modelling facilities, both physical (developed at our
Laboratory in Grenoble) and numerical, with a demand for ever-increasing precision. Artelia’s scientific
output in all these fields is significant, comprising around 50 scientific publications a year, participation
by our engineers in international conferences and symposiums in their areas of specialisation,
frequent contributions to the organisation of such events at national level, or participation in courses
at engineering schools and vocational training centres. We also lay emphasis on creating new services,
often made possible through advances in digital technology, to handle the emerging requirements of
our clients.
