Millau viaduct - France
From Sogelerg to Thalès Engineering & Consulting
In 1998 Sogelerg joined the Thomson-CSF group, which attached it to its own engineering company,
Sodeteg (Société d’études techniques et d’entreprises générales). Created in 1958, Sodeteg was active
in the sectors of building construction, public works and industry, with a marked specialisation in
defence engineering (advanced electronics, equipment for missile or rocket firing ranges). Sodeteg
was also working for international key accounts on strategic consultancy and design assignments
and the monitoring of international financing plans. This amalgamation resulted in an entity with
a workforce of 600 and turnover of approximately €100m, under the name Thalès Engineering &
Consulting (2000).
Within this new company, the former Sogerleg teams continued their activities in their fields of
specialisation. They thus participated in many road and railway projects (e.g. motorways in Spain and
Greece, the ‘LGV Est-Européenne’ high-speed railway, Le Mans tramway), whilst continuing to perform
studies in urban planning and mobility, in France, the overseas territories and internationally (Greater
Papeete development, Reunion Tram-Train). Activity also continued in the field of civil engineering
structures, with in particular the working design studies for the Millau viaduct (2001-2004).
