MOE and Brødsgaard join forces
The oil crises were instead a rather productive period for the activity of MOE, because our clients
commissioned us to convert their power plants from fuel oil, which had become very expensive, to
more economical coal. After a few years, with the environmental impact proving to be too great, we
began to restructure these facilities to allow them to use biomass as their final choice of fuel. We
thus became a national expert in these techniques and in district heating networks, which are one of
Copenhagen’s specific strengths.
Following the death of the founder in 1980, the company was in the end bought out by its executives.
The principle of employee shareholding arose from this era and developed into an underlying
characteristic of the company. In 1992, MOE took an important new step in its development by merging
with the Brødsgaard company. Created in 1938, Brødsgaard had begun to work for Copenhagen airport
and quickly made a name for itself in the field of airport infrastructure.
This operation gave us a new lease of life. Not only were the two companies able to contribute their
respective expertise in the energy and airport infrastructure sectors; they combined their strengths to
confirm their place in the building construction sector. The inauguration of the Black Diamond in 1999
marked the success of these changes. In providing engineering services for this prestigious building,
one of the most famous in Denmark, we demonstrated that in partnership with leading architects we
were able to complete even the most ambitious projects.
